Breast Lift in Turkey, the process, the healing, and what I wish I’d known
A breast lift (mastopexy) isn't about size but position: the nipple is raised, excess skin removed, the tissue reshaped. The price is scars, and that's what clinic websites talk about least.

What a breast lift is
Depending on how much sagging there is, the incisions differ: only around the areola (periareolar), plus a vertical line downwards (“lollipop”), or plus a line in the fold under the breast (“anchor”). The more sagging, the more scar.
A lift is often combined with an implant when volume is missing as well as position. That's a more complex operation with its own trade-offs.
Who it suits, and who it doesn’t
Suitable for sagging after breastfeeding, weight loss or with age, low-sitting nipples, completed family.
Not, or not yet: during or shortly after breastfeeding, if pregnancy is planned, with significant obesity, with nicotine, with unclear breast findings that haven't been assessed.
The incision patterns in detail
Periareolar (Benelli)
Around the areola only. For mild sagging where the nipple needs little lifting. Smallest scar but limited lift; the areola can widen over time.
Vertical (lollipop)
Around the areola and straight down. The commonest for moderate sagging. Good shaping, manageable scar.
Anchor (inverted T)
Plus the fold. For significant sagging and a lot of excess skin. Most scar, most control over shape. The junction under the breast is where wound problems most often occur.
Lift with implants (augmentation mastopexy)
When both position and volume are lacking. Technically demanding because the implant adds volume while the skin is reduced, the forces work against each other. Higher revision rate than either operation alone. Some surgeons stage it in two steps.
Lift with fat transfer
For women who don’t want implants but want some volume: fat from liposuction is placed during the lift. Limited effect, natural result.
What a lift can’t do
It doesn’t enlarge the breast, if anything it looks smaller because it’s more compact. It doesn’t last forever; gravity, weight and pregnancies keep working. And it doesn’t remove stretch marks unless the skin they sit in is removed anyway.
The right time
- Several months after breastfeeding, once the breast has its final shape.
- Stable weight, lose weight afterwards and the breast sags again.
- Family complete if possible. If you want to breastfeed, postpone.
- Smoke-free for several weeks before and after, nipple blood supply depends on it.
- Unclear findings assessed beforehand.
To combine or not
Lift plus implant in one session is common, but the revision rate is higher than for separate operations. Lift plus tummy tuck (mummy makeover) lengthens the anaesthetic considerably. What’s defensible for you is decided by the surgeon on tissue, health and extent.
The process in Turkey
Before you travel
Blood tests; ultrasound or mammogram as appropriate. Stop smoking. Non-wired sports bra.
Arrival
The day before surgery.
Surgery day
Markings standing up, consent, general anaesthetic, two to three hours. One night in hospital.
Days 1-6
Sports bra round the clock, dressing changes, check-up. No arms above shoulder height.
Clearance and flight home
Usually after about a week, and only once the surgeon clears you.
Healing week by week
The part clinic websites cover in one sentence, and the most important.
Tightness, swelling, bruising. Sleep on your back.
Stitches checked. Desk work possible.
Scars red and raised. Breast still firm and high.
Exercise once cleared. Normal bra once cleared.
Breast softens, settles slightly into its final position.
Scars mature.
What nobody likes to say
- The scars are the issue. With the anchor pattern: around the areola, vertical, and in the fold. They fade, but they stay.
- The lift doesn't last forever. Gravity, weight and pregnancies keep working.
- Without an implant the breast often looks smaller after a lift because it's more compact.
- Nipple sensation can change.
- Breastfeeding afterwards isn't guaranteed.
Risks
General surgical risks: bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing, blood clots (DVT and pulmonary embolism), anaesthetic complications. Procedure-specific: wound breakdown where the scars meet under the breast, loss of nipple sensation, very rarely compromised nipple blood supply, asymmetry, wide or raised scars, reduced ability to breastfeed, revision.

What a quote should contain
I give no prices here. Not because I don’t know them, but because any figure without an examination is misleading, and because this site also serves countries where price advertising for cosmetic surgery is restricted. A reputable quote for a breast lift is itemised by surgeon, anaesthetic, hospital stay, materials and aftercare, and it states what isn’t included. When two quotes differ widely, it’s almost always the surgeon’s experience, the materials, the hospital or the length of stay. I’ll walk you through the clinic’s actual quote line by line.
Common questions
Will the scars show?
Yes, to varying degrees. They fade and flatten over twelve months.
Which incision do I need?
It depends on the degree of sagging: periareolar for mild, lollipop for moderate, anchor for significant. The surgeon decides standing up.
With or without implants?
Lift only if there’s volume and only position bothers you. With implants if volume is lacking too.
Will the breast get smaller?
Visually often yes, because it’s more compact. Little tissue is removed in a pure lift.
Can I breastfeed afterwards?
Possibly reduced. If you want to, postpone.
How long does a lift last?
Many years, not forever. Weight, pregnancies and age keep working.
How long in Turkey?
Usually one week. The surgeon clears the flight home.
How long am I off work?
Desk work after one to two weeks, exercise after six.
Does nipple sensation change?
Temporarily often, permanently rarely. Risk is higher with major lifts.
What does a breast lift cost in Turkey?
It depends on pattern, implant, surgeon and hospital. I give no figures.
Does it remove stretch marks?
Only those in the removed skin. The rest stay.
