It can't be answered in general, there are excellent specialists and very poor offers. The criteria from BAAPS and the professional bodies help: communication with the surgeon, verifiable specialist qualification, experience with your exact procedure, real before- and aftercare, and suspicion of cheap deals. The 28 British deaths in Turkey since 2019 are real; so are the thousands of good outcomes. The difference is in the choosing.

You can. The difference: a clinic wants to operate. I've been through it myself and will also tell you when to leave it. And I'm still there afterwards.

Check the specialist title, ask about experience with your procedure, get the surgeon’s own assessment before booking, settle aftercare, be suspicious of very low prices. I work with one specialist I know personally.

It depends on the procedure, the surgeon, materials and length of stay. I deliberately give no prices on this site because any figure without examination would be misleading. The binding quote comes from the clinic after the first conversation. I'll explain beforehand what should and shouldn't be in it.

Lower wage and hospital costs, the exchange rate, high specialisation and volume. A very low price still always has a reason, usually the surgeon's experience, materials or length of stay.

Directly to the clinic, on their terms, usually by transfer or card. Cash without a receipt is a warning sign. I take no money from you.

Through my own fee, which you pay to me. For that you get my knowledge and my own experience, me as your contact around the clock, the care package, the app, access to the community and my support for six months. The fee is a separate line in the offer, next to the clinic price. I receive nothing from the clinic.

Not with reputable offers, but some things are never included: flights, meals outside the hotel, treatments that only emerge at the pre-op assessment, and all follow-up costs at home.

Usually one week. The surgeon clears the flight, not the calendar.

Passport, blood tests, ECG, medication list. Photos and medical records go to the clinic only after our conversation and only through an encrypted channel, never a web form.

Yes, the surgeon himself and his clinic team. Your consent conversation happens in English without an interpreter. I remain your contact throughout your stay.

Desk work after one to three weeks depending on the procedure, physical work after six to eight. Plan more generously than you think.

Fixed check-ups with the clinic, a practice at home for stitches and simple checks, and me as your contact for six months. Settled before you travel, not after.

Three to twelve months depending on the procedure. Anyone judging at four weeks judges too early.

Every operation under general anaesthetic carries risks: wound problems, infection, clots, anaesthetic complications. Plus procedure-specific risks on every procedure page. And particular to going abroad: combinations, the flight home, aftercare at a distance.

Yes. Flying too early increases clot risk. Professional bodies recommend a recovery period before longer journeys.

Yes. Several operations under one anaesthetic raise the risk of clots and wound problems. Whether a combination is sensible is the surgeon's decision, not the package's.

Because they suggest a promise nobody can make, because they're banned as advertising in Germany and Austria where I also work, and because UK advertising rules treat them as testimonials that must be unretouched and typical, which most aren't.
