Chin Liposuction in Turkey, the process, the healing, and what I wish I’d known

By Ivy11 min readUpdated September 2026

Liposuction under the chin is the smallest facial procedure with a visible effect, if the conditions are right. The decisive point is skin elasticity: with firm skin everything retracts; with loose skin more hangs afterwards than before.

My connection to this surgeon

I was a patient of the specialist I refer you to. I was so convinced by his work that I chose to work with him. On site, his clinic team looks after you, English-speaking, from the airport to the last check-up. He speaks English himself; your consent conversation happens without an interpreter. For legal reasons I don't publish his name. You learn it later in the process, once you have signed a short agreement with me and your photos are in for his assessment.

What chin liposuction is

Through two or three tiny punctures under the chin and behind the earlobes, the fat between chin and neck is suctioned. Usually under local anaesthetic with sedation. A chin strap goes on straight afterwards to guide the skin into its new position.

If suction isn't enough because skin or muscle have also loosened, a neck lift is the right procedure.

Who it suits, and who it doesn’t

Suitable for a fat pad under the chin with good skin elasticity, usually up to about the mid-forties, with stable weight.

Not: with loose skin or visible neck bands, then a neck lift; with a receding chin that makes the neck look slack; with thyroid or salivary gland changes without assessment.

Suction or lift?

That's the only question that matters, and it decides between satisfaction and disappointment.

Suction is enough if …

A lift is needed if …

An honest surgeon tells you this at the first consultation, even when the larger procedure would cost you more. If someone sells you suction despite loose skin, that's a warning sign.

A chin implant as a complement

A receding chin makes the neck look slack regardless of fat. Sometimes an implant is the more effective procedure. That belongs in the consultation.

The right time

The process in Turkey

Before you travel

Blood tests, no blood thinners. Buy a chin strap if not supplied.

Arrival

The day before surgery.

Surgery day

Markings sitting up, consent, local anaesthetic with sedation. Chin strap immediately after.

Days 1-4

Swelling and bruising of the neck, chin strap round the clock. Check-up.

Clearance and flight home

Usually after about a week, and only once the surgeon clears you.

Healing week by week

The part clinic websites cover in one sentence, and the most important.

Week 1

Swelling, bruising, tightness. Chin strap day and night. Swallowing feels odd.

Week 2

Bruises fade, strap at night. Presentable with a scarf.

Weeks 3-6

Residual swelling; the skin feels firm and numb. That's normal and settles.

Months 3-6

Contour appears. Final result.

What nobody likes to say

  • If your skin has lost elasticity, the neck looks slacker afterwards, not tighter.
  • The skin under the chin feels hard and numb for weeks.
  • The chin strap is uncomfortable and non-negotiable.
  • If you gain weight the fat partly returns, and elsewhere anyway.
  • With a receding chin the real issue is the jaw angle, not the fat.

Risks

General surgical risks: bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing, blood clots (DVT and pulmonary embolism), anaesthetic complications. Procedure-specific: contour irregularities and dents under the chin, asymmetry, prolonged numbness, injury to the nerve branch to the lower lip with temporary weakness when smiling, residual skin excess with poor elasticity, seroma.

Two risks are particular to going abroad: combining several procedures under one long anaesthetic, and the flight home. Both belong in the surgeon’s consultation, not the quote. In full: Cosmetic surgery abroad.

Aftercare at home

Before you travel we sort out: who removes the stitches; which practice near you is willing to see you if something isn't right; which documents you bring home, operation report, material details, medication list; who you can reach at night. And we talk about what the NHS or HSE will and won't do after an elective procedure abroad: emergency care yes, corrections no.

What that looks like for women from the UK and Ireland is on the country pages.

What a quote should contain

I give no prices here. Not because I don’t know them, but because any figure without an examination is misleading, and because this site also serves countries where price advertising for cosmetic surgery is restricted. A reputable quote for chin liposuction is itemised by surgeon, anaesthetic, hospital stay, materials and aftercare, and it states what isn’t included. When two quotes differ widely, it’s almost always the surgeon’s experience, the materials, the hospital or the length of stay. I’ll walk you through the clinic’s actual quote line by line.

Common questions

Is suction enough for me?

It depends on your skin elasticity. With loose skin a neck lift is the right procedure, otherwise it gets worse, not better.

How long do I wear the chin strap?

About a week day and night, then one to two weeks at night.

How long in Turkey?

Usually one week. The surgeon clears the flight home.

How long am I off work?

One to two weeks, until bruising is concealable.

Does the fat come back?

The removed cells don't. With weight gain the remaining ones grow, elsewhere too.

Will the skin stay numb?

Often for weeks, permanently rarely.

Local or general anaesthetic?

Usually local with sedation.

What does it cost in Turkey?

It depends on extent and combination. I give no figures.

Is the trip worth it for this alone?

Rarely. Combined with another facial procedure, more so.

What about fat-dissolving injections?

A different method with several sessions and its own risks. It belongs with a doctor, not a beauty salon, and it's no reason to travel abroad.

Let’s talk it through, without pressure

Twenty minutes, no obligation. We start by working out whether surgery is the right step for you at all, and whether now is the right time.
