Thigh Lift in Turkey, the process, the healing, and what I wish I’d known
The thigh lift has the highest rate of wound healing problems of any body procedure, because the scar sits where the skin moves with every step, stays moist and rubs. That isn't a reason not to have it. It's a reason to have it very deliberately.

What a thigh lift is
Excess skin on the inner thighs is removed. With minor excess the scar sits in the groin crease only (horizontal technique); with major excess it also runs vertically down the inner thigh towards the knee (vertical technique).
Liposuction is often done first and the lift second, to shape the result and protect the blood supply of the skin.
Who it suits, and who it doesn’t
Suitable for significant excess skin after major weight loss, weight stable for at least six months, chafing and skin problems on the inner thigh.
Not: for a pure fat problem with good skin; during ongoing weight loss; with nicotine, the risk here is particularly high; with lymphoedema or venous disease without assessment.
The techniques in detail
Horizontal technique
Scar in the groin crease only, hidden by underwear. For moderate excess in the upper third. Cosmetically the best solution, if it's enough.
Vertical technique
Adds a scar down the inner thigh to the knee. Needed for significant excess after massive weight loss. Far more visible, but unavoidable when a lot of skin must go.
With liposuction
Usually in the same operation: suction first, then lift. Protects the blood supply and shapes better than lifting alone.
Why nicotine matters especially here
The inner thigh has a poor blood supply, the scar is under tension and the area is moist. Nicotine narrows the vessels on top of that. For this procedure a smoking stop of several weeks is a condition, not a suggestion, a reputable surgeon will otherwise decline.
The right time
- Weight stable for at least six months; after weight loss, twelve is better.
- Smoke-free for several weeks before and after.
- Two to three weeks arranged with little sitting and standing.
- A practice at home reachable if a wound opens, confirmed before you travel.
The process in Turkey
Before you travel
Blood tests, ECG, medication list. Stop smoking several weeks before. Buy compression garments in the size the clinic specifies. Arrange a companion and help at home.
Arrival
The day before surgery. Airport pick-up, hotel, nothing to eat or drink after 10 pm.
Surgery day
Pre-op checks, markings, the consent conversation with the surgeon. General anaesthetic. First night monitored.
The days after
Getting up with help, first steps, discharge to the hotel with instructions and an emergency number. Dressing changes and check-ups.
Clearance and flight home
Only once the surgeon clears you. Compression stockings, aisle seat, walk every two hours.
Healing week by week
The part clinic websites cover in one sentence, and the most important.
Swelling, tightness, pain walking and sitting. Short distances, compression round the clock. Groin wound care is decisive.
Stitches checked. Sitting still uncomfortable. No prolonged standing.
Scar red; groin healing needs patience. Compression continues.
Exercise once cleared. Compression usually stops.
Contour appears, residual swelling goes.
Scar pale. Final result.
What nobody likes to say
- The groin scar heals worst of all body lifts, moisture, friction, movement.
- With the vertical technique the scar runs visibly down the inner thigh to the knee.
- Sitting is uncomfortable for two weeks; so is standing for long.
- Seromas and small wound openings are more common here than elsewhere.
- The scar can migrate downwards over time if it wasn't anchored properly in the groin crease.
Risks
General surgical risks: bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing, blood clots (DVT and pulmonary embolism), anaesthetic complications. Procedure-specific and more common than elsewhere: wound breakdown in the groin, seromas, lymphatic congestion with leg swelling, scar descent or widening, distortion of the labia if closed under tension, inner-thigh numbness, revision.

Aftercare at home
In addition to general aftercare: with this procedure the check-ups in weeks two and three matter most, because wound problems appear then. Before you travel, confirm which practice at home is willing to dress an open wound, not every one will after surgery abroad.

What a quote should contain
I give no prices here. Not because I don’t know them, but because any figure without an examination is misleading, and because this site also serves countries where price advertising for cosmetic surgery is restricted. A reputable quote for a thigh lift is itemised by surgeon, anaesthetic, hospital stay, materials and aftercare, and it states what isn’t included. When two quotes differ widely, it’s almost always the surgeon’s experience, the materials, the hospital or the length of stay. I’ll walk you through the clinic’s actual quote line by line.

Where does the scar run?
In the groin crease, and with major excess also down the inner thigh to the knee.
Why does it heal so badly?
Moisture, friction and movement in the groin. Compression, hygiene and the week two and three check-ups are decisive.
Is liposuction enough?
Only with good skin elasticity. With hanging skin it makes things worse.
How long in Turkey?
Usually one week. The surgeon clears the flight home. That matters especially here because of the clot risk.
How long am I off work?
Desk work after two to three weeks; standing jobs considerably longer.
Can I smoke?
No. For this procedure stopping is a condition, not a recommendation.
How long can't I sit properly?
Uncomfortable for about two weeks, then improving.
What does a thigh lift cost in Turkey?
It depends on technique and extent. I give no figures.
Can it be combined with a tummy tuck?
Possible, but the anaesthetic becomes long. After massive weight loss many surgeons advise two sessions.
When will I see the result?
Contour at three months, pale scar at twelve.
